Christians Guarding Muslims While They Observe the Zuhr Prayer at the Protest Ground in Jos

*THE DAYS OF USING RELIGION TO DIVIDE AND RULE THE PEOPLE OF PLATEAU STATE ARE OVER.*

The positive side of the Protest in Plateau State.

For the first time, Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Professor Nentawe Yilwatda were on the same page. Plateau people united in exercising their democratic rights, rising above sentiments of religion, ethnicity, and tribal differences.

We have always set the pace as one united Plateau.

Those who protested exercised their democratic rights but did not resort to violence or looting of properties on the Plateau. That was a concerted effort.

That’s what democracy is all about: the freedom to exercise our rights without infringing on the rights of others.

I was happy to see how the police in Lagos escorted peaceful protesters and how some police officers were giving protesters pure water from a police Hilux automobile under the secretariat bridge in Jos, now nicknamed the protest bridge, although some people still refer to it as Lalong bridge, one of the most colorful flyover bridges in Nigeria.

This is a win-win situation for democracy in Nigeria.

It’s unfortunate how the protest turned into a looting spree in some states and the wanton vandalism of public property.

My appeal is this: You can protest and make your genuine demands peacefully without becoming a menace to society.

    Makut Alfred Mashat (Digital Chairman).
