FG Declares Tuesday 1st October Public Holiday

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has officially declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

The announcement was made through a statement by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, declared the holiday, offering congratulations to Nigerians both at home and abroad.

In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo acknowledged the resilience and hard work of the Nigerian people, emphasizing that their contributions are appreciated and will not go unnoticed.

He also reflected on the theme for the anniversary, calling on Nigerians to honor the labor of past heroes and unite for the challenges ahead, reminding citizens that the dream of a better Nigeria can only be realized through collective effort.

In an earlier report, the federal government revealed a schedule for the Independence Day celebration. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, disclosed that the event would begin with a World Press Conference on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

An Inter-Ministerial Committee, inaugurated by Hadiza Usman on behalf of the SGF, will oversee and execute the events for the anniversary.

Akume emphasized that this year’s celebration will be modest, taking into account the economic difficulties currently facing the country.
