Governor Mutfwang of Plateau Named The Sun Governor of The Year

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has emerged as The Sun Newspaper’s Governor of the Year 2024.

The award is in recognition of Governor MUTFWANG’S servant leadership, transformative vision, and bold initiatives that have spurred rapid development across all sectors of Plateau State’s economy.

The Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Publishing Limited, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, made this announcement while presenting the nomination letter titled “Nomination for The Sun Governor of the Year Award 2024” to Governor Mutfwang at the Governor’s Lodge, Abuja.

Explaining the rigorous selection process, Mr. Ukeh emphasized that Governor Mutfwang’s recognition was purely based on merit.

“Your selection for this award was the result of a thorough and rigorous process, spanning several weeks of debate and scrutiny by our Board of Editors. You emerged as the winner of The Sun Governor of the Year Award due to the following reasons:

“Many citizens of Plateau State identify you as a leader with transformative ideas, courage, drive, and a remarkable ability to meet targets. In less than two years in office, you have demonstrated these virtues in governance, achieving significant advancements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, power generation, and the fight against insecurity.”

Mr. Ukeh highlighted Governor Mutfwang’s contributions, including the construction of new roads within the Jos-Bukuru Metropolis and beyond, as well as the rehabilitation of older roads in record time.

He further praised the administration’s achievements in healthcare, particularly the revitalization of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Agency. The agency now oversees the procurement, storage, and distribution of essential medications, to ensure that they are affordable and accessible to the public, especially the less privileged.

In agriculture, Mr. Ukeh noted significant strides aimed at enhancing productivity, boosting farmers’ incomes, and promoting sustainable practices.

He also commended the Governor’s bold initiatives in revitalizing the civil service for efficient service delivery. Salaries are paid promptly, and the administration is addressing long-standing gratuities, death benefits, and pension backlogs dating back to 1986.

In response, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing the award as a reminder of the strides his administration has made to improve the lives of Plateau citizens. He praised The Sun Newspapers for its professionalism and for carving a niche in Nigerian journalism.

“I approach this role with sincerity, viewing it as an opportunity for service. If you fail to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the people who have entrusted you with their confidence, it’s a betrayal of trust. While challenges and limitations may arise, we strive to do our utmost best for the benefit of the majority,” the Governor stated.

He further emphasized the importance of changing the narrative about Plateau State, highlighting its pleasant weather, immense tourism potential, and its peaceful, hospitable, and God-fearing people. Governor Mutfwang also called on the media to support his administration in promoting the true image of the state.
