The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

General Useni passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82 after a long illness.

In a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang described Useni’s death as a significant loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation at large. He praised Useni’s leadership and dedication to service, highlighting his contributions to Nigeria’s security and political spheres, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State.

Governor Mutfwang recalled the late General’s distinguished career, which included roles as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. He also noted Useni’s transition into politics, where he served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was later elected Senator for Plateau South in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Mutfwang commended Useni’s legacy of selfless service, compassion, and generosity, extending his condolences to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Useni’s family, and all those grieving the loss. He prayed for God’s strength and comfort for the family and the nation during this difficult time.
