The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally received persons who recently defected from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), into the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The decampees were received on Wednesday 25th September 2024 during the official presentation of certificates/flags to the Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates respectively of the PDP in Kanam LGA, as well as the flag-off of campaigns ahead of the October 9th 2024 Local Government Elections, held at the Dengi Mini Stadium, Kanam LGA of Plateau State.
Recall that within the last 30 days, the APC in Kanam LGA was hit by waves of defections over unresolved internal issues leading to the defection of prominent leaders and founding members of the party in Kanam LGA.
Those who defected include immediate past Deputy Speaker and Former Member representing Dengi Constituency at the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt Hon Saleh Shehu Yipmong, Immediate Past Executive Chairman and Former Commissioner under the Lalong Administration Alhaji (Dr) Dayyabu Yusuf Garga, Former Account General of Plateau State Shem Damisa, Alhaji Zakari Yakubu Useini, Alhaji Aminu Gani, APC EXCO Members at Ward and LGA levels, as well as Former members of the Kanam Legislative Arm.
They led at least 20,000 supporters from the APC into the PDP family across Kanam LGA with a promise to join forces with the PDP to deliver good governance to their people.
Receiving the decampees unbehalf of the PDP, Zonal Chairman, Plateau Central of the PDP Monday Daspan thanked them to choosing the PDP while urging them to mobilize their supporters into the PDP for future successes for the PDP. He also presented each of the leaders of the decampees with symbolic PDP flags to mark their official reception into the party.
In his remark, representative of the Governor of Plateau State and leader of the PDP in Kanam LGA, Honorable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman while welcoming the decampees affirmed that the PDP remains on ground in Kanam LGA.
He added that so far the people of Kanam LGA and indeed Plateau State have experienced better dividends of democracy and governance with just one year in office compared to the years of governance under the APC, stressing that so far, Governor Caleb Mannaseh Muftwang has so far performed excellently well.
Chief Usman pointed out that in addition to the various interventions initiated within the LGA, which include the construction of school, provision of fertilizers and foodstuff to the people, Governor Caleb Mutfwang had asked him to announce that government will soon construct 6km road network in the LGA.
Chief Ephraim Usman thereafter handed over a new Sharon Bus to the PDP EXCO in the LGA as part of his promise to them.
The event was well attended by Chaimanship candidates from the 5 LGAs of the Plateau central zone, top government appointees, State EXCO of the party, former National, Zonal, State and LGA EXCO members as of the party, as well as critical stakeholders from across the state.
Chief Ephraim Usman also attended the official flag-off of campaigns in neighboring Kanke LGA where the PDP Chaimanship candidate Hon Lapching Golime along with the Councillorship candidates in Kanke received their certificates of return and flags as candidates of the PDP in the forthcoming October 9th 2024 Local Government Elections.
