Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has proclaimed a key milestone in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which has reached N2 billion, a 150% increase from N800 million when he took office last year.
Speaking to journalists at a press conference honoring his one-year in office, the governor attributed his success to closing loopholes and ensuring appropriate resource management.
“We haven’t just started, we only blocked the loopholes; we only ensured responsible management, and it’s been able to take us to that point,” he explained.
Governor Mutfwang voiced hope that the State’s IGR would rise further with the application of new procedures to increase tax density, allowing the Government to easily pay salaries and fulfill its financial commitments.
“We are going to build our IGR to a level where we will be comfortable and at least pay salaries,” he assured.
Given the difficulties many States in the nation have in raising money, the governor’s efforts to increase the state’s IGR have been praised as a noteworthy success.
Therefore, Plateau inhabitants have expressed hope that the State’s infrastructure and social services will be upgraded as a result of the increased cash.
A resident of Jos, the state capital, named Monica Yusuf stated, “This is a welcome development, and we hope that the increased revenue will be used in his usual manner to improve our roads, hospitals, and schools.”
