1. Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has regained control of the local government structure as his loyalists who contested elections under the Action Peoples Party have won all but one of the 23 chairmanship positions. Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, declared the result in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Saturday night.
2. Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday appointed his daughter to replace his late wife as First Lady. The governor made the announcement during a condolence visit to his family by the Wife of the President, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu in Uyo.
3. Oil marketers have warned of impending fuel scarcity over the decision of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to shut down its petrol purchasing portal. The marketers revealed that they are awaiting the supply of over 90 million litres of petrol, valued at approximately N79 billion from NNPCL.
4. Nigeria has officially commenced the sale of crude oil and refined petroleum products in Naira. A statement from the Ministry of Finance on Saturday said the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, announced implementation of the initiative approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) starting from October 1, 2024.
5. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that his administration will commence the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage once the issue of consequential salary adjustment has been addressed. He also announced the extension of the N25,000 wage award to workers and N15,000 wage award to pensioners by another three months.
6. Former militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has issued a stern warning in response to alleged military helicopter surveillance over his residence in Rivers State. In a video on Saturday, circulating via X, Dokubo claimed that two helicopters had been flying over his home and compound for over 30 minutes, an act he perceived as provocation from the government, the police, and supporters of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
7. The Rivers State Police Command on Saturday confirmed that two separate explosions occurred in different parts of the state on Saturday. It reported that the first explosion took place at the All Progressives Congress Secretariat along Aba Road, while the second struck the Obio/Akpor Local Government Secretariat, just outside Port Harcourt.
8. Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Ogunnaike Philip, on suspicion of killing at least three young girls, including an 18-year-old, in separate incidents across the state. The command stated that the suspect’s method was to lure his victims into the forest, where he would tie them up, strangle them, and then abandon their bodies after stealing their phones.
9. A 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The incident was said to have occurred on Friday after a heated argument between the couple.
10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss an appeal filed by former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, seeking to stop the forfeiture of $2.4 million and several choice properties linked to him. Emefiele’s legal team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Olalekan Ojo, argued before Justice Deinde Isaac Dipeolu on Friday, calling for a stay of proceedings pending the outcome of an appeal.
