Former Nigerian Governor Dies At 71

Delta State is mourning the death of former governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 71.
Uduaghan governed the state for eight years, serving two terms from 2007 to 2015.
His death was announced by his family in a statement signed by Toju Anire Uduaghan, who described the former governor as a respected elder and an important figure in the lives of many people.
According to the family, Uduaghan was more than a former public office holder, describing him as a source of strength, father figure, brother, uncle and respected elder.
“We will deeply miss his presence and forever cherish the memories and legacy he leaves behind,” the statement said.
The family also expressed gratitude to God for his life and the years he devoted to serving the people.
Uduaghan had built a career in the Delta State Government before becoming governor.
He served as commissioner for health between 1999 and 2003 and later became secretary to the state government, a position he held from 2003 to 2007.
He subsequently emerged as governor in 2007 and remained in office until 2015, with his administration focusing on human development and infrastructure across the state.
As tributes continue to follow his death, the family prayed for comfort for his relatives, friends, associates and others mourning him.
The statement concluded with a tribute to the former governor, saying,
“Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you touched.”
